What is a Breast Augmentation?
A Breast Augmentation is one of the surgical procedures most chosen for many women to enlarge the size and improve the shape of their breasts, the procedure is to be performed by a Cosmetic or Plastic Surgeon, it can take place in a hospital or an ambulatory plastic surgery center .There are different ways to perform a Breast Augmentation, it can be done by placing a Silicone or Saline implants under the mammary gland or behind the pectoral muscle, thru a minimum access of 5cm incision under the crease or though the areola, that way you can achieve a rounder and fuller appearance of the breast.
Things You Need to Know About Breast Augmentation Surgery
Breast Augmentation is correctly called “augmentation mammoplasty.” It is the most common type of cosmetic surgery in the USA. In 2019 – 299,715 procedures took place, which was a 4% decrease from 2018.
Breast augmentation, or a boob job, aims to create more attractive and symmetrical breasts and typically involves placing saline or silicone implants under the breast tissue. It can also utilize fat transferred from elsewhere in the body.
Which is the best: Breast Implants or Fat transfer?
Which is the best: Breast Implants or Fat transfer?
The fat transfer seems to provide a more natural look since you are just shifting your body’s fat from one location to another. However, only one cup size is possible using fat. Sometimes the fat will calcify or give the appearance of cysts. Research has not shown fat transfer to be any safer than implants, and with the side effects of fat transfer, it may be that implants be a better option. It would be best if you ask your surgeon about this.
Which Type of Implant looks more natural?
It is generally thought that Silicone Implants are more realistic-looking and they feel more genuine than Saline Implants. However, Saline Implants typically are cheaper than Silicone ones. Silicone Implants will also keep their shape better than Saline ones and are less prone to wrinkles.
One advantage of Saline Implants is that the surgeon can fill the implant with sterile salt water after they have been placed in position. This process allows the surgeon to view them in position and create the most appropriate sizing.

Breast Augmentation Surgery – What’s Involved?
Where will doctors cut?
There are commonly three types of incisions made during the surgery. Most surgeons have a favorite and will stick with that method unless circumstances make another alternative better.
Periareolar
This incision is made around the areola and reduces the visibility of any scarring that may occur. This type of incision will destroy around 40% of milk ducts and reduce the success rate of breastfeeding. The advantage is greater visibility for the surgeon during the placement. This cut is not the most common incision used.
Inframammary
This incision is made below the breast and can easily be hidden by a swimsuit or bra. The advantage is that there are zero risks of damage to the nerves in the nipple. The downside with this type of incision is that it is difficult to increase the volume of the breasts (or decrease them) at a later date as the scarring will either move to the breast or lower, making it visible.
Transaxillary
This option is an incision under the armpit. Scaring is not visible, but this type of incision cannot be performed on everyone. There is a risk with some patients of damage to nerves.
The Benefits of Breast Augmentation
A “Boob Job” will increase both your self-esteem and confidence. This is one of the reasons that Augmentation was the most commonly performed cosmetic procedure every year since 2006. Women may have many different reasons why they want the surgery, including:
- Restoration of breasts after pregnancy
- Restoration after drastic weight loss
- Enlarging small breasts
- Restoring symmetry of the breasts
How can you prepare for a Breast Augmentation surgery?
The night before you are due to have breast augmentation surgery you should do the following:
- Wash your hair
- Wash your body with antibacterial soap
- Refrain from eating or drinking anything for at least eight hours before surgery
- Get a great nights sleep
Will the results of the surgery last?
The average lifespan of a breast implant is around ten years. Your breasts will continue to grow older, and changes in weight may change the appearance of your breasts. As the implants age, there is a risk of rupture.
Will my Boob Job take long to heal?
Recovery from your boob job is likely to take a few weeks. A lot depends on both the person and the type of lifestyle. Physical activity for the upper body should be avoided. Action should be taken to ensure you sleep on your back or side during recovery.
Conclusion
No surgery should be undertaken without thinking carefully about all aspects of the procedure. However, breast surgery carried out by reputable surgeons is a safe procedure, and if you attend a reputable clinic, there should be no problems.
